Secant Walls
Secant pile walls are retaining walls that are constructed by using a softer concrete pile overlapped by a harder reinforced concrete pile, resulting in a continuous, impervious, underground wall that can be excavated against if required.
Secant walls are used in situations where due to unfavourable ground conditions, a palisade/soldier pile wall or sheet pile wall is not sufficient, and a continuous pile wall is required.
The secant pile wall method provides an effective solution for the construction of deep excavations to form basements, cut and cover tunnels, tanks, etc.
Common Applications
- Slope stabilisation
- Support of excavations
- Basement construction
- Cut and cover tunnels
- Underground tanks
- Water retention or exclusion
